IFC UNHCR Joint Initiative - Kenya - Renewvia

Kenya - Renewvia

Ongoing: 2019 - Present

Renewvia Energy Kenya designs and constructs solar mini-grids, delivering reliable and affordable electricity to underserved communities. The company aims to transform lives by providing modern, safe, and accessible energy to low-income and densely populated areas beyond the reach of the national grid. Since entering Turkana County, Renewvia has brought new life to both refugees and host communities in the Kakuma Refugee Camp and Kalobeyei Settlement. Access to electricity has enabled children to study at night, empowered businesses to operate large machinery, and allowed households to use essential appliances such as phones, refrigerators, and televisions. These advancements have strengthened social cohesion, extended business hours, and improved food preservation, significantly contributing to the region’s economic and social development.
